Versace Promotes Equality and Unity on Runway at Milan Fashion Week

Given the current state of American politics, it was hardly a surprise that designers got political with their collections at New York Fashion Week earlier this month. That fashion activism, however, has seemingly spread across the Atlantic now too.

Given the current state of American politics, it was hardly a surprise that designers got political with their collections at New York Fashion Week earlier this month. That fashion activism, however, has seemingly spread across the Atlantic now too.

At Milan Fashion Week today, Versace unveiled its Fall 2017 show with a collection that promoted equality, unity, love and strong women overall. There was no subtlety in the message here, beanies reading "EQUALITY," "COURAGE," "UNIFIED" and more in all caps accompanied the bold, colorful collection.

The positive messages were also displayed on dresses, with phrases like love, loyalty and unity:

For the finale, Amber Valletta walked the runway wearing a white bandana to raise awareness for the ACLU and UNHCR. The #TiedTogether Fashion Week initiative was started by the Business of Fashion to get designers, models and industry insiders to unify in support of inclusivity and more specifically, organizations like the ACLU who help protect equality and human rights.
