Nothing Kanye West does is by accident, so it should come as no surprise that there was a well-thought-out reason for him wearing shoes that were too small for his feet when he attended friend 2 Chainz's wedding in Miami last weekend. And now, we finally have that reason.
The rapper – who raised eyebrows and made headlines for the unexpected fashion move – took to Twitter last night to explain that he was wearing his Yeezy sliders "the Japanese way".

West shared two images with his tweet, one which was an illustration describing that "the heel should extend 1-2cm off the back of the wooden sole". The second image was a photograph of a man wearing sandals in this way.
While his sliders are clearly not traditional Japanese shoes, West appeared to be taking inspiration from the way this style of shoe is worn for his unique wedding-guest look.
Although he received some criticism from his followers (who questioned why he had only come up with this explanation 10 days later), it is difficult to argue that West would ever have worn a pair of shoes that he designed in a size too small by accident.
