In 1764, Baccarat Crystalworks was founded with the permission of King Louis XV of France; by 1907, the company was outputting 4,000 perfume bottles per day. Now, 250 years later, Baccarat is celebrating its anniversary with Rouge 540, a new, very limited fragrance (only 250 are available) created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian and housed in a golden-red crystal bottle designed by Georges Chevalier in the 1940s. "I wanted to create a graphic fragrance with a formula that was taut and compact in the extreme," said Kurkdjian, who describes the woody, amber, floral juice as "luminous, dense, transparent and intense." At $4,000, Rouge 540 likely isn't poised to become your new everyday scent, but we can't think of a better gift for the perfume collector who has everything.
